What a blast!
We conducted our first ever Colour Blast at North High last Friday. Thanks to an enthusiastic Year 11 student who led the organisation with the P&C, student council and our Deputy Principal Mr Findlay, the oval was awash with the colours of the rainbow with students and staff having fun together as they moved through the obstacle course. It was a great way for our year 12 students in particular to spend their final afternoon before beginning their external exams. Thank you to the many students who participated in the Colour Blast. Well done and we look forward to our next one in 2022.
GP in Schools
I’m very pleased to announce that Bundaberg North SHS has been selected to participate in the GPs in Schools Pilot. We are one of 50 schools in Queensland and 1 or 2 in Wide Bay.
The Pilot is part of the Queensland Government’s Student Wellbeing Package. The initiative is designed to make it easier for adolescents in Queensland schools to access the healthcare they need.
The Pilot will allow our school to set up a fit-for-purpose GP clinic on school grounds. This clinic will provide students with access to a GP one day each week, during school terms.
We are only in the initial planning phase at this stage so we will keep you informed as the program develops. Selected schools have a proposed start date of May 2022.
Year 12s begin external exams
Best of luck to all our Year 12 students who this week begin their 17 day external exam block. Year 12s will be attending school only for their exams, tutorial and catch up sessions. Students are working toward gaining their QCE and completing all external exams for those eligible for an ATAR score. Good luck!

University of Queenlsand Young Achiever's Program held their annual awards evening on Tuesday, 19th October. Year 12 North High students Braydan and Abbie will be going on to study at UQ in 2022 and we wish them well. As they were farewelled, the Young Achiever's Program welcomed Year 10 students Chanel, Ebonie and Patrick to the Program.

UQ Award goes to North student
Year 12 student Braydan was awarded the 'Bowness Family Foundation Year 12 Award' as part of his involvement in the University of Queensland Young Achievers Program. Braydan is 1 of just 4 students in Queensland to receive this award. We are very proud of his achievement.

Colour BLAST
Years before I graced the grounds of Bundaberg North State High School, previous Student Councils came across the idea to hold a ‘Colour Fun Run’ at our school. This idea would continue to be brought up and quickly put down – it was no simple task. But this year was different, on Friday the 22nd of October, we were able to hold the first ever ‘North High Colour Blast’.
While there was nervousness around how successful the event was to be, we were thrilled to see the reaction to the idea. Almost 100 students from across all year levels attended the Blast (a great turnout for the first attempt). Students (and teachers) walked, jogged and ran laps of the oval, jumping through tyres, ducking and weaving through pool noodles, and crawling under cargo nets, all while being sprayed with colour. The music was roaring, and the energy was infectious. It just so happened that the event fell on the Year 12’s last day of regular school, acting as an explosive farewell to the school leaders before exam block.
Thank you to my fellow Student Councillors for your support. Whether you helped set up, participated, or just spread the word, your actions are greatly appreciated. A special thanks goes out to Mr Findlay for his huge help with organising the event, a group of students can only do so much without a staff member backing them up. Also thank you to Mrs Hansen and the P&C for running the Sausage Sizzle.
I can’t wait for ‘North High Colour Blast 2022’, I already have plans to make it bigger and better!

Year 7 and 8 Math Quiz
QAMT Year 7/8 Maths Quiz District Final
On Tuesday, 12th of October three students travelled to Hervey Bay to compete in the Year 7/8 Maths Quiz. The team consisted of team Captain Isobel (Year 8), Chase (Year 7) and Louisa-Rei (Year 7), who worked together to compete in five rounds of Maths challenges. The five rounds of the quiz included; Round 1: Estimation, Round 2: Speed, Round 3: Written Problems, Round 4: Individual Questions and Round 5: General Maths Knowledge. Students competed against schools from Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay. The team competed very well against the other schools but unfortunately missed out on a place in the Top 3. Isobel, Chase and Lousia-Rei should be congratulated for their efforts, as they gave 110% to each round and where fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Mr Duncan, Mathematics Head of Department

Creative workshop for North Artists
Talented art students from grades 9 to 12 ventured to CQU campus to participate in a printmaking workshop facilitated by artist Nancy Brown. The students enjoyed creating patterned fabric with carved lino prints and designed bags with stencilled screen prints. The group also collaborated on multiple hydroscopic banners, using stencils, leaves and other ephemera. The experience was organised by the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and was funded by an RADF grant, encouraging young emerging artists to explore their creativity and refine their skills.
The experience was a good way to top off 2021 for our amazing year 12 students.

First Nations celebration
On Tuesday, 19th our Year 12 First Nations students attended the Bundaberg District Indigenous celebration ceremony recognising our graduating class of 2021. North High has the highest number of First Nations students graduating across all schools. Congratulations to Callum and Skye winning "Student of the Year" and to Jacob for winning the Attendance Award with 96% attendance over 2 years.
Mr Alberts, Community Education Counsellor

RAS class say goodbye to Year 12s
Ms Hall's WALLA C 'Relationship and Self' (RAS) class planned a celebration party for our wonderful group of four seniors who will be leaving North at the end of this year – Elliot, George, Alipeti and Blayce. The seniors requested some yummy food (of course!) – specifically cob loaf – and wanted to play basketball. So Ms Hall cooked and we devoured the goodies between chatting and playing basketball. A good time was had by all. The rest of our class is waiting impatiently to see how well Alipeti, George and Blayce scrub up for prom – we’re pretty sure Elliot has it in the bag!
