From the Principal's Office

The end of term is fast approaching. Students have begun completing assessment and will be issued with a progress report in Week 10. Students have an assessment schedule that they should be able to show you so that you are able to track the assessment requirements and dates. Please do not hesitate to contact classroom teachers if you have any questions about your child’s progress or their assessment.
Last weekend, two year 12 students Byron and Jayne competed in the Regional Lions Youth of the Year finals and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Byron won the Public Speaking category. Both students did an admirable job and presented confident speeches that impressed the audience. Well done Byron and Jayne.
On Friday this week we recognise the National Day of Action Against Violence and Bullying. Our anti-bullying committee including ‘Buddy Bear’ will be out amongst the students promoting positive messages. The students have already been visiting RAS classes delivering a presentation. The theme for 2022 is 'Kindness Culture'. By building 'Kindness Culture' together, we can promote inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students in schools across Australia. Well done to the enthusiastic anti-bullying committee for all the work they are doing.
Support Services for Students
At North we have a range of support services that we are able to provide for students, some delivered by staff who are based at North and others visit on a regular basis.
Students have access to Guidance officers (5 days a week), a School Based Health Nurse (3 days a week), Youth Support Coordinator (5 days a week), Chaplain (2 days a week), Vocational Education officer (5 days a week), Youth Insearch counsellor (1 day a week) plus a number of other services from Uniting Care and Phoenix House.
Adding to the services will be a General Practitioner (1 day per week). North High will be one of 50 schools in Queensland being part of the GP in Schools program. Dr Bailey from the Branyan GP Superclinic will be attending North 1 day a week along with a clinical nurse. The GP clinic is not a COVID clinic and no vaccinations of any kind will be administered from school through this GP program. The clinic will operate under the existing GP guidelines for any community GP clinic. These guidelines will be followed by all schools involved in the program. Please read the attached guidelines. More details will follow over the next few weeks about how appointments can be made. The estimated date for opening is early in Term 2. It is important that you discuss this with your child/children. We will be releasing information to students over the next few weeks and wanted to provide you with information first.
We look forward to welcoming the GP to our school to add to the services that we are able to provide for our young people. If you have any queries/concerns please contact me as this is a new program for us at North and we will work together to make it a success.
