From the Principal's Office

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you and your family enjoyed an enjoyable Easter break.
This term is off to a great start with many students participating last week in the annual Cross Country run. Students are now offered opportunity to compete in the teams event or the individual Bundaberg and District competitions and we wish our students all the best.
During the last week of term, all parents will have been sent their student/s Term 1 progress report. I ask that you take the time to discuss the report with your child/children and that you take the opportunity to meet with teachers this week at our Student Progress Conferences on Thursday 28th April. We will be holding a sausage sizzle along with the interviews to allow teachers and parents to meet.
After quite a disrupted Term 1 due to absences from COVID, majority of students have gained sound results with some classes receiving 100% A-C results. The year 7 English classes gained 91% A-C results which was very pleasing to see knowing that we are focussing on improving year 7 & 8 English and Maths results.
Thank you to the staff and students who participated in the ANZAC marches in Bundaberg and Moore Park on Monday April 25th and to those who participated in our school ceremony. The students were outstanding ambassadors for the school.
Next week we begin our GP service in the school once a week. Bookings can be made every Tuesday commencing, Tuesday May 3rd . Students wishing to make an appointment with the doctor should make a booking through our school website or in person at the G Block student hub. We welcome Dr Shanna Bailey and Nurse Amelia Holz to our team.
On May 7th, our dedicated P&C are holding a Cent Sale at the Spotted Dog from 11.30 am for a 1.00pm start. If you would like to attend and help raise funds for the school please book a table by phoning the office on 41 300 222. If you would like to donate a prize for the Cent Sale we would be most grateful. Donation can be dropped off at the main office. We hope to see many of you there.

GOTCHA UPDATE
Over 25000 Gotchas ‘cashed in’ during term 1! This is an amazing effort and demonstrates the excellent effort and behaviour of students at Bundaberg North SHS. Each RAS House had thousands of Gotchas handed in. It was a close finish between Mabbro and Monduran at the end of last term, but the winning RAS House was Monduran! At the start of each term the Gotcha Tally resets. Who will be the winning RAS House this term?
Have you received a green Gotcha? Green is the new Gotcha colour released last week. Don't forget to start collecting green Gotchas for demonstrating respect, responsibility and safety. Students could currently have a mixture of yellow, purple and green Gotchas! New prizes for 'cashing' in Gotchas coming soon. Also, some ‘special’ Gotchas coming soon for students to look for, collect and submit for a special parade draw! More information to be shared in the coming weeks!
REACH FOR THE SKY AWARDS
Reach for the Sky Awards recognise students who consistently demonstrate excellent effort and behaviour across their subjects. Students can receive a BRONZE, SILVER or GOLD award based on the number of ‘excellent’ results for effort and behaviour. Each student must meet the minimum requirement for both effort and behaviour, for example, to receive a BRONZE award they must achieve at least 4 x Excellent results for effort and 4 x Excellent results for behaviour across their subjects.
Criteria:
- GOLD: 6 x Excellent for Effort and Behaviour
- SILVER: 5 x Excellent for Effort and Behaviour
- BRONZE: 4 x Excellent for Effort and Behaviour
- PLATINUM: Achieve 3 x Reach for the Sky.
The data for these awards is from report cards; Interim report term 1, Semester 1 report, Interim report term 3.
Each student receiving a Reach for the Sky award will receive a ‘postcard’ through their RAS class informing them of their achievement (see the example below). From the term 1 reports we have over 135 students who have achieved an award. Well done students!
REWARD DAY
Reward Day for term 1 was held Thursday 31 March, with 260 students qualifying. Over 80 students chose a tuckshop voucher, so the tuckshop was kept busy providing lots of yummy choices during the last days of term! Some students are yet to collect their vouchers and these can still be collected from the office. The other students who qualified for Reward Day, either received a whole Domino’s pizza or attended a movie at school with a bucket of popcorn each! THANK YOU students for your support and enthusiasm for the North Rewards program at Bundaberg North SHS. THANK YOU for demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety. As this is a new initiative, we welcome feedback from students and parents/carers regarding the program. Students will be given an opportunity to provide feedback through an online survey. Parents/carers can provide feedback by emailing principal@bundabergnorthshs.eq.edu.au

Chicken Coops for Gooburrum SS
Bundaberg North State High School year 12 Building Construction class used their skills learnt over the last few years to make two chicken coops for Gooburrum State School to be part of their sustainable garden. It was my privilege to present them on behalf of our school. I think our students felt a wonderful sense of pride of their achievements in making something worthwhile.
The staff and students of Gooburrum State School thanked our students for supporting their program. Congratulations Building Construction BSK Yr. 12!

Qld Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In the next few weeks, students in years 7, 9 and 11 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.
An information letter is attached for you. Participation in the survey is voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your child’s education in any way.
Your child will also be asked if they would like to participate before starting the survey. They will be free to stop or withdraw at any time.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the QEW Survey, please complete the form at the link below.
Your child will still get a link to the survey in their email even if you opt out, but they won’t be able to get into the survey without the access code given only at the time of completing the survey.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: (https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey).
