From the Principal's office

End of another year
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another school year. Over the past two weeks, there have been a number of opportunities for us to reflect on the year. It was so pleasing to see so many achievements being celebrated including significant improvements in results in English, continued gains in Math and Science as well as lower behaviour incidents when compared to last year.
This reflection has then led to planning for 2023. In the classroom, there will be a continued focus on the delivery of quality curriculum through Expert Teaching. We will also be strengthening the North Support Structure introduced this year, with the whole school adoption of the "Resilience Schools Program". This program is an exciting initiative initially bought to us by the BNSHS P&C. After investigation into the program, the Senior Leadership Team felt the goals of this program aligned with the goals of the North Support Structure and would greatly assist students and staff. This is an exciting development for 2023 where all staff will be trained for the program and it will be delivered across all year levels through your wellbeing lessons (Big RAS) and will address the following:
Please follow either of the links below for more information, or to visit their website.
Year 12 Results:
Final subject results and Senior Education Profile (SEP) - Release of results
From 9am on Friday 16 December, final subject results for Year 12 students will be available in learning accounts in the Student Portal, accessed via the myQCE website at https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au.
Students can also access their SEP in their learning account. Depending on students’ individual circumstances, their SEP will comprise one or more of the following documents:
- Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- Senior Statement
- Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).
The electronic versions of SEP documents in students’ learning accounts are official — they contain a unique validation code and digital signature to confirm they are authentic.
Students are able to download the documents as PDFs to provide to a third party in electronic or print format, and print their own copy.
Access to the Student Portal
Students must know their learner unique identifier (LUI) to register for the Student Portal. Students will gain faster access if they have previously registered. After students have registered for the Student Portal, they can log in with their email address and nominated password.
If you can’t get your My QCE account to work eg you have forgotten the email you used / lost the password etc, here are the contact details for QCAA to gain assistance. We can’t help you with your access from school.
Get in touch with QCAA
They have two support areas you can contact, depending on the type of query you have:
- Student Portal access and login queries — phone (07) 3864 0299 or email ClientServices@qcaa.qld.edu.au
- QCE eligibility, results and other queries — phone 1800 804 991 or email myQCE@qcaa.qld.edu.au
Hours: Monday–Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30pm, excluding public holidays.
Access to ATARs
Students are reminded that ATARs will be available via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) at www.qtac.edu.au/atar. Students should have signed up to the ATAR Portal to enable access their ATAR and need to use their name (as shown in their QCAA learning account), date of birth, LUI and email address.
Year 6 Transition
Thanks to Mrs Thornton - HOD Junior Secondary and Student Services, as well as the many teachers who hosted a very successful Year 6 transition on Wednesday, 30 November. The students enjoyed meeting new friends, some of their potential teachers and starting to find their way around the campus. We look forward to them joining us in 2023.
To help you prepare for 2023, whether your student is returning to school or new to North High, please visit our school website's '2023 All you need to know' page. This will help you with information such as where your student should go on the first day, what they need to bring with them, information about uniform, timetables and more.
Finally I would personally like to thank all staff for the warm welcome and support I have received over the past 7 weeks as Acting Principal. I have enjoyed working here and wish all staff a relaxing holiday break. I would also like to wish all BNSHS families a very happy and safe holiday season.

Congratulations year 9 students
The Junior Certificate of Education is a school-based recognition of achievement for year 9 students. Seventy-five year 9 students achieved their JCE this year. This was celebrated with a special parade yesterday. Congratulations to these students for demonstrating their commitment to learning. Certificates for students who were absent can be collected from the office. You can view photos of recipients later in this newsletter or on the school Facebook page.
Reward Days
This term we had two Reward Days! One on Friday 25 November for year 10 and year 11 students, with over fifty students choosing to attend the movie option: Black Panther – Wakanda Forever. All students were well behaved and we enjoyed the movie and canteen treats!
Reward Day 2, was Tuesday 6 December, with almost 90 students attending the trip to Norville Pool. It was a beautiful hot and sunny day with students enjoying the pools and inflatables. Excellent behaviour was demonstrated by all students. Thank you students for a great finish to the North Rewards program! Please enjoy the photos below.
Early next year we will be asking for Reward Day ideas again! So please note down any ideas ready for North Rewards next year or join us at a P&C meeting to share your thoughts and ideas.
Ten free things to do on the holidays
At our last Junior parade I shared ‘ten free things to do on the holidays’ with students. It’s important for students to experience our local area, spend some time outdoors and connect with family and friends. Here’s the list:
- Visit Christmas lights around Bundaberg. There is even 'Carols by the Dashboard Light’ with local artists performing their versions of Christmas songs, while you visit Christmas light displays.
- Go to the beach – so many beautiful beaches in our region
- Read a book – an actual book!
- Visit Bundaberg Library – there’s much more than just books!
- Visit the Botanical Gardens – maybe a family picnic
- Visit the Bundaberg Art Gallery
- Watch a Christmas movie - I recommend ‘Elf’
- Play a board game with your family
- Explore Sharon Gorge
- Spend time with your friends.
Thank you students for your enthusiasm this year. I have enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to even more rewards, events and Gotchas next year! Thank you to parents and carers for your ongoing support of your students to engage them with education. Have a safe and happy holiday. See you in 2023!
Mrs Watson, Deputy Principal
Junior Certificate of Education
Year 9 students were presented with their Junior Certificate of Education on Parade today to recognise the completion of the junior phase of learning. Students were required to achieve a 'C' standard across core subjects over 4 semesters. These students should be proud of their achievement which paves the way to success for their senior years at North High.

Pool rewards!
Almost 90 students celebrated their term 4 'reward' with a trip to Norville Pool yesterday. It was the perfect day for the students to make the most of the inflatables and the water park. Students had a fantastic day!

Stymie - #saysomething

What does Stymie do for young people?
Of every 30 young people in Australia seven will be dealing with a mental health issue, yet only two will reach out for support. Stymie works with you to give the young people you are working with, the power to say something or ask for help. We are an early intervention initiative that changes and saves lives.
Stymie empowers young people to ask for help when they need support, or if they are seeing or experiencing harm.
Stymie provides online reporting for schools. Encrypted, anonymous notifications are delivered within seconds to authorised recipients, who respond according to their wellbeing framework. The notification provides the option to include screenshots or images that validate the notification.
Being able to anonymously report, relieves feelings of helplessness for those who want to help their peers but don’t quite know how. Our purpose is to support you in creating an environment where harm can be minimised and effective action can be maximised.
Stymie can be used by anybody. It does not have to be a student at our school. The link to make a notification is on the school website front page
